On the 21st of June 2010, local surfer, boxer and St Paul’s Catholic College student Nathan Sawyer tragically died.

He was 17 years of age, the eldest brother of Matthew 16 and Ben 14 and cherished son of Tom and Georgina. Nathan was a keen surfer and an excellent young boxer ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2OewYTncI8 ). His death was unexpected and shocked the whole of the local community. Their respect was expressed by the 300 people who participated in his paddle out memorial at his local beach Curl Curl on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

To help commemorate the life of Nathan, his closest friends organised an annual surf fest which took place at North Curl Curl (2011 was the first year the event was held). The competition was run in a tag team style with 4 people per team with over 100 people competing. Many more people came along to watch and showed both their respect and support throughout the day to his family and friends.

All proceeds were donated to ‘Beyond Blue’ The National Depression Initiative.

It would really mean a lot to Nathan’s family and friends if you would share this video to help celebrate the life of Nathan as we keep our thoughts and prayers with his family.

RIP Mate, FOREVER YOUNG.
